Mid Jun-July Recap

Hey y'all! These last few weeks have been a whirlwind, and my laptop has basically been living in my backpack collecting dust. But on the bright side of busy, I've tried some new recipes, caught up on a stack of movies, and logged some quality couch time with the dogs. Figured it was time for a little life-update deep dive.

Eats

I don’t know about anyone else but this heat wave that has been hitting the South has been absolutely kicking my ass. In the beginning of July our AC started to go out so we had a few days when the house got into the mid 80s on the regular and it was rough. With all of that I pretty much refused to turn the oven on as to not heat up the house any more that- so I did some looking on TikTok and found what is probably my new favorite Crock Pot meal: Cowboy Sammies. Luckily the jalapeños kind of cook off the heat so it ended up being very smooth! I paired it with some garlic aioli, and it was a complete win.

I also dug out our combo air fryer/Ninja grill. That thing is great but it’s huge and takes up a ton of counter space for literally no reason… except the fact that it does a lot. And I have to say I forgot how good fried foods are out of that thing, we have an air fry function on our stove, but it just isn’t the same. I was able to step up my breakfast burrito game- I’m telling you if you are not air frying tots or fries and putting them in your breakfast burritos then you are missing out! These beauties were made up of: salsa cream (my creative name when you have just a little bit of sour cream left so you add in some salsa and combine), bacon, eggs, some turkey sausage patties, shredded cheese, and the start of the show: tater tots. Wrap those babies up and throw them in the air fry and you have a delicious, (probably somewhat unhealthy) way to start the day! IMG_2904

Watches

My favorite Disney movie growing up was Toy Story (and is also partially the name sake of this blog) so of course I was going to go see Toy Story 5 as soon as we could. We already had tickets to see Stop! That! Train! the weekend Toy Story 5 premiered so we had to get tickets for the next weekend. Luckily that gave us the time to watch every other Toy Story movie made (including Lightyear- which I still do not understand the hate for) before we saw the new one and it was completely worth it. I remembered that I could basically recite the first movie line for line and how the second is still probably my favorite one in the entire franchise. I relearned my not-so-subtle hate for Lotso (I get it, your kid accidentally abandoned you but that literally was not her fault- if you are going to blame anyone, blame the parents man) but I still do not agree with his ending. Also- how the hell did I forget that terrifying monkey? And in 4- how terrifying was Gabby Gabby and the ventriloquist dolls turned henchmen/bodyguards? Did I just black that stuff out? I know Toy Story 3 came out when I was 16 but like… still terrifying…

Toy Story 5 was everything I wanted and more. I got the vibe early on that it was very much a Jessie arc, and I was so here for that. I won’t go too in depth in case someone has not seen it yet. But just know, Jessie gets her roses and the movie definitely does the franchise justice.

IMG_3103 Danny and I may or may not have been influenced and happened to find this huge Bullseye plushy while shopping a few weekends ago and thought he would be the perfect addition to our beds set.

5-Star Weekend was probably one of my favorite watches from the last few weeks though. Short and sweet (I was able to knock it out in a weekend) with an appropriate balance of slight shock yet very predictable twists. All while hot rich ladies rocked a beach weekend sipping wine and having pajama dance parties? I was here for it.

Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come- honestly, I was annoyed when this was announced because I loved the first one so much and it felt a little money-grabby to me but they actually did a pretty good job making the plot flow in a way that wasn’t just completely off the wall. It cranked up the cheese a bit which I’m always a fan of, but it still told a very engaging story with a very well-done ending.

If you need me, I'll be rewatching a Toy Story for seventh time this month and trying to convince Danny that Bullseye earned his spot on the bed fair and square. Back to the Letterboxd list next week- assuming the dogs let me off the couch or I don't get buried by work. Until next time!

XOXO, Gossip Roy
