Hadestown, Breakfast Bagel Nests, and Jello Shots

It’s 6am, I am still in bed and trying to decide if I want to make the long trudge to the kitchen for coffee so I thought: what better time to catch up on some stuff that went down last week? A musical I did not fall in love with, a breakfast hack, and the fact that I am slowly working towards becoming our rodeos designated Jell-O shot boy. Life got busy- it do be like that sometimes.

First off- My fiancé and friends and I went and saw Hadestown last weekend while it was playing in theaters and I’ll just say I’m glad my friends enjoyed it so much because I was not the biggest fan. To clarify- the performances were amazing and most of the actors did a fantastic job with what they were given, I just don’t think I like what they were given? The entire thing was a little bland to me- the numbers were dull and did not do much to show off vocal range of some of the actors, the choreography was dismal and the pacing was just extremely slow. The set relied entirely too much on that very cool spinning and raising/lowering centerpiece of the stage. And the costuming that barely changed the entire show? I mean come on- there was not one break away outfit change or single sequin on that entire stage. Again, I can see why it is so regarded but it was just not for me- for a musical I need a rousing number or a tap sequence to really suck me in. Think Sutton Foster in Anything Goes or Hot Honey Rag from Chicago, hell I’d even take I Want it All from the trend defining classic- High School Musical 3.

Breakfast Bagel Nests

This last Saturday we did not have plans in the morning, so I was able to make one of my favorite quick breakfasts that I have named Breakfast Bagel Nests. I usually make these in the oven but since I have been trying to be better about using my air fryer, I decided to try them in there and they turned out even better and I thought I’d share.

Ingredients:

2 Bagels

4 Eggs

½ Bacon (I just buy a pound of the Great Value thick cut bacon and cut it in half)

1 Cup Shredded Cheese.

Garlic Salt and Pepper

The prep is easy, just set your air fryer to 400, cut your bagels in half then cut the center of the bagel out with a cookie cutter and lay flat in the tray. Line the inside of the hole you cut with a slice of bacon, then crack an egg into it. Top with shredded cheese and a sprinkle of garlic salt and pepper and I like mine with some Louisiana hot sauce. Cook those bad boys for 15-20 minutes. The time can vary on how runny you like your eggs. I started with 15 and they were very runny which I don’t love so next time I’ll do more. Just temp your bacon and make sure it hits 145 degrees. I always make these things when I am not feeling a lot of prep work- I usually throw them in the oven at 400 for 20-25 minutes which works just as well If you don’t want to use an air fryer. 889FE223-BD30-4AD8-A899-90BDDDDCC5D0_1_105_c

Jell-O Shots

Last weekend I had to moonlight at my unpaid side hustle that I sometimes do on Saturday nights for our rodeo organization… selling Jell-O shots. It all started a few months ago when my fiancé hosted his first show and he asked me to sell shots which I of course said yes to. It had mild success so now I feel like I have become the designated Jell-O shot boy since I got asked to do it this past weekend in OKC again. I’m talking like I’m annoyed but I actually love doing it- you get to work a room and get tips (which all go back into the rodeo donations) and look cute and have people tell you you’re pretty- honestly, it’s the best side hustle I’ve ever done that I’m not getting paid for.

That has been the last few weeks in a nutshell: a musical that let me down, bagels that did not (and never do), and more progress on my unpaid career peddling gelatin alcohol to the masses. For the record, I still have not gotten up and made my coffee. More soon.
