Fun Goals to Set When You Have Zero Goals

I fell down a rabbit hole on TikTok today about this guy practicing for a set of Highland games coming up in Washington this weekend. I scrolled through his profile and saw several videos of him training and it made me realize a few things…

  1. That man was WEARING that kilt. I have a kilt in my closet right now, I should start wearing that more often?
  2. I could probably make those games in Washington if I left in the morning…
  3. He is out here working towards a goal… I don’t have a single goal in life right now?

Like this man was out here working towards something he is passionate about, my fiancé has been focused on prepping for our upcoming Rodeo (which I am excited for but not nearly on the same level), one of my employees is about to leave to move across the country to get their Masters, and then there is me- I don’t really have much goal wise going on right now. Don’t get me wrong, I have been trying to fully commit to my health journey (I have even started doing two nights a week of boy kibble where I just make bowls of 93/7 ground beef, air fried potatoes, and 2% cottage cheese. I want to say it’s awful, but it actually slaps every time). But while that is a great goal long term- it isn’t that “fun”. Healthy and good for me in the long run? Absolutely. But not fun.

So I have been thinking- what are some things I could take on that would be stimulating and make me feel a bit more fulfilled but also are a good time and bring me some joy, or fun (are you sensing a pattern here?). I figured I would put some of the down on paper and stew on it for a few weeks and see if anything sounds like it may be up my alley:

-Train for a 5K. I did a 5K obstacle course years ago and remember it being one of the most fun experiences- even if I did break my wrist on the last obstacle before the finish line.

-Cook my way through a list/cookbook. Not sure if this is a whole book or just a list of a particular set of themed recipes.

-Become a Tulsa expert. I have been here nearly 6 years and I am still finding new places I have never heard of. Whether that be the best restaurants, best book stores, etc. Not sure what that would look like, but it could be a fun journey.

-Take a class/learn a new skill completely out of my wheelhouse: pottery, swing dancing, kick-boxing, basket weaving.

-Throw myself into photography- I bought a new to me camera a few months ago and it has just been hanging up, collecting dust. I should just start and see what I can learn.

-Commit to one social event a month for a year. Whether that be a small gathering in Tulsa, or a rodeo event- it just needs to be something that gets me out of the house and out of my comfort zone a bit. This would also take me back to my roots a bit of my “one new thing” a week. This could get me back to that.

I am going to take a week to mull these over and see if one or more really sticks out and seems like something I would want to commit to. If you have any other ideas shoot me a message and I’ll take it into consideration!
