Roy Story

Crochet King (In Training) and Jurassic Park.

During COVID I picked up a new hobby (didn't we all) and it kind of stuck. Not like in a "Wow, this is such a a fun hobby, what else can I do with it" kind of way but more of a "Ok, you are decent at this one particular thing, you should just do it and repeat it forever and never try anything new with it or change it up in any way." and that is exactly what I did for years.

I'm talking about crocheting. Specifically scarves. Almost exclusively single crochet. Definitely always using this one particular kind of yarn I found at Wal-Mart. And don't get me wrong they were decent, cute even. Nothing to center a Tik Tok or blog around but decent enough to be a solid heartfelt gift that someone can tell I put a lot of time and effort into. And that's what I have done for years: single crochet scarves on a loop. To be fair, I also started a blanket that I have disassembled and restarted at least 6 times but I have yet to finish so that does not count in the slightest.

But this past weekend... the cycle was broken and I finished my first crochet beanie! I found this great yarn around Christmas time called Lion Brand Quick and Thick that easily cut my scarf project time in half so I figured I would put it to the test and it worked. I watched a few Tik Toks trying to find a new pattern as well and landed on trying a back loop double crochet stitch and it turned out great! IMG_7473 IMG_7478

My second new thing of the week was the first book in a book club a few friends and us started. We wanted to go all in for our first read so we picked a book that also got made into one of the group's favorite movies, Jurassic Park! We made a very fancy themed dinner of Dino Nuggets, mashed potato volcanoes with brown gravy lava and topped off with broccoli foliage. We discussed in depth then watched the movie and then decided to make themed bracelets. We hoarded beads last year in preparation for friendship bracelets for Taylor Swift and are always looking for any excuse to make a themed bracelet. So after dinner we took a quick side quest to Hobby Lobby for Dino charms and themed beads. After dropping one bracelet probably four times I called it off after one. IMG_7554 IMG_7573 IMG_7560

All in all it was great week. I have to say I am proud of myself that I've made it three weeks of new things and posting on here. To the next week!
